Light Weight Technology CELLMOULD®

The light weight technology CELLMOULD® was developed by Wittmann Battenfeld to manufacture structured foam parts through direct gas injection with physical foaming agents. Chemical or physical foaming agents are used in production to make extremely light and rigid parts without sink marks. The process uses liquid nitrogen as a foaming agent, which is injected into the barrel and is suited for manufacturing light and structured components. This process allows for their foam to have reduced weight, frozen-in stress, warpage, and higher rigidity while keeping the same weight. It also prevents sink marks, allows for greater flow lengths through reduced viscosity, shorter cycle times, and offers a new scope for design.

The package for CELLMOULD® includes a special screw and barrel unit with 25 L/D, a gas injection nozzle for the injection of gases into the screw barrel, gas flow regulator module to ensure controlled gas injection, pneumatic needle shut-off nozzles to prevent leaking of the melt with the foaming agent, hydraulic accumulators for fast injection, a control and regulation of the CELLMOULD® process via the UNILOG B6 control, and a nitrogen and compressor unit.
